Understanding the costs involved to replace and operate space and water heating equipment is important these days since together they represent by far the largest portion of an energy bill for a typical Winnipeg residence.
This past Summer Manitoba Hydro had removed the Space and Water Heating Cost Comparison document from its website to update and make changes to it. The document is now replaced by two documents, one for space heating and one for water heating. The two PDF documents are a wonderful resource to provide homeowners to assist them in making energy choice decisions as it relates to their space and water heating needs.
The attached new documents are complete with energy rates in effect as of August 1, 2015. These two documents are to be updated on a quarterly basis when the natural gas rate change occurs (i.e. next update November 1, 2015).
The Space Heating Cost Comparison most current version can always be found at www.hydro.mb.ca/heating.
The Water Heating Cost Comparison most current version can always be found at www.hydro.mb.ca/water.
Also found on both of the above links is the heating cost comparison calculator that is now mobile friendly. The calculator provides Winnipeg homeowners with a more personal estimate of their annual operating and lifetime costs of various space and water heating systems.
This 5 minute Video explains where the differences are with gas, propane, geothermal, electric, and fuel oil equipment as they relate to real operating costs in today’s economy.
